Jupiter is twice as massive as all the other planets of the Solar system combined. At the same time it rotates faster than any other planet. Colorful latitudinal bands, atmospheric clouds and storms illustrate Jupiter's dynamic weather systems.
When viewed through a modern telescope, the flattened disk of Jupiter has a pearly color with bands of pastel browns and blues. You will get a much better view if you download this awesome screensaver!

Jupiter is twice as massive as all the other planets of the Solar system combined. At the same time it rotates faster than any other planet - in less than 10 hours. Its low density indicates that the planet is composed primarily of the lightest elements - hydrogen and helium. Colorful latitudinal bands, atmospheric clouds and storms illustrate Jupiter's dynamic weather systems. The planet is well-known for "The Great Red Spot", a complex storm moving in a counter-clockwise direction, across the planet.
Jupiter is encircled by at least 61 satellites and a series of thin rings which makes it similar to a miniature solar system.
